Evaluation of nano-selenium biofortification characteristics of alfalfa (<i>Medicago sativa</i> L.)

Abstract Selenium (Se) is indispensable for animals and humans. One option to address Se deficiency biofortify plants with Se. Biofortification of forage nanoparticles (NPs) gaining more attention as an efficient safe source livestock. The purpose this study was investigate the effect different concentrations NPs-Se (0, 30, 50, 100, 150, 250 mg·L −1 ) on growth alfalfa harvested multiple times, provide a basis production Se-enriched forages. Applying 50 concentration had best yield over three harvests. Over harvests, low-dose (30 application significantly increased peroxidase superoxide dismutase activities, chlorophyll content carotenoid content, decreased malondialdehyde content. total accumulation in at same harvest showed upward trend increasing concentration. At concentration, from first third harvest, initially then decreasing trend. evaluation found that foliar could have greatest positive multiple-harvested alfalfa.
